Over the next year, Duke Raleigh Hospital will be experiencing many transformations on our campus as we grow our services to better meet your needs. This growth will support the addition of new equipment and additional space to enhance our services.
Bi-plane Addition
Among these changes is the expansion of our cardiovascular facility, with a bi-plane addition. The installation of this state-of-the-art bi-plane equipment provides the capability for atrial fibrillation procedures, other electrophysiology procedures, and advanced neurovascular procedures. Along with this equipment, there will be a 2,776 square foot addition to accommodate our expanded cardiovascular support services and facilities.
Surgical Services
Our surgical services are growing too. We will be renovating and expanding our existing surgical facilities with a two-level addition to the surgery department. Totaling 5,084 square feet, this major expansion will accommodate two additional operating rooms, as well as the renovation of the existing surgery department, preoperative suite, and post anesthesia care unit.
Our Same Day Surgery lobby will also be renovated with the addition of six pre-operative bays, relocation of the Plaza Pharmacy and upgrading of Same Day Surgery registration.
MRI
Duke Raleigh Hospital’s diagnostic services just became more convenient. With the acquisition of a second fixed MRI scanner we are expanding our diagnostic services and increasing our patient convenience.
Emergency Department
Our emergency department is also growing. The renovation and expansion of the emergency department will create a new entrance, add square footage and 11 new treatment rooms. This construction will facilitate patient flow, expedite the check-in process, afford patients and family members greater privacy and comfort, and improve the efficiency of care delivery.
Updated Campus Traffic Patterns
This expansion project is an exciting opportunity for our hospital, but most importantly for our patients. However, it will impact the flow of our campus, particularly with on-campus vehicle and pedestrian traffic. For your convenience and safety, we want to make you aware of these immediate changes as well as those to come.
An immediate change to our campus is the closing of the side canopied entryway adjacent to the emergency entrance and leading from the P2 parking garage into the hospital. All pedestrian traffic from P2 into the hospital will be routed to the front entrance of the hospital by way of a marked walkway along the side of P2.
Also, the road between the main hospital building and Medical Office 7 will convert to a one-way road from September 5 through October. The road will run from Wake Forest Road toward Executive Drive.
Once this initial phase is complete, we will begin to see the second phase of our expansion. This will affect the road between the main hospital and Medical Office 7. Beginning in November, this road will be closed through summer of 2012. Vehicles will be able to enter the same day surgery patient drop off from Executive Drive and exit back onto Executive Drive.
Duke Raleigh Hospital’s shuttle service will be available for your convenience, to assist patients and family members in retrieving parked cars. A pedestrian walkway leading to P2 will additionally be available.
At Duke Raleigh Hospital, our patients are important to us and so is their safety. During this expansion time we will have public safety officers strategically located in high traffic and construction areas to assist in directions and to provide assistance to patients and visitors.
Please let us know how any of our team members can assist you during this exciting time of transformation on our hospital’s campus.
