Robotic Surgery

The da Vinci robotic surgical system used at Duke Raleigh Hospital allows surgeons to perform complex procedures using a minimally invasive approach.

The da Vinci system provides surgeons with an alternative to both traditional open surgery and conventional laparoscopy by enabling surgeons to perform complex surgeries through small incisions.

Patient benefits include less postoperative pain, less blood loss, a shorter hospital stay, a quicker recovery, and a more rapid return to daily activities.

The system consists of an ergonomic surgeon’s console and a patient-side cart with four interactive robotic arms that hold a camera and surgical instruments.

Powered by state-of-the-art robotic technology, the robotic system seamlessly translates the surgeon’s motions into even more precise movements.

Robotic surgery is currently available at Duke Raleigh Hospital for the following services and procedures:

  • Gynecology: hysterectomies, myomectomies (fibroid removal), lymph node dissections, and sacrocolpopexy for vaginal prolapse
  • Urology
  • Colorectal Surgery
