Neurology

Duke Raleigh Hospital offers the latest neurology services for patients with disorders of the brain, spine, and central nervous system, including those suffering from a stroke or sleep disorder.

Duke Raleigh Hospital is currently seeking accreditation by the Joint Commission and the American Stroke Association as a certified stroke center.

A nine-bed neuroscience unit located on the second floor of the hospital is designed to provide comprehensive care to neurological and neurosurgical patients. A primary focus of the unit is the care of patients during the acute phase of an acute ischemic stroke.

The unit is supported by the critical care intensivist service, which provides medical management assistance 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

The nursing staff on this unit have received advanced training and education specifically focused on patients with neurological and neurosurgical diagnoses. The neuroscience nurse practitioner coordinates the care of these patients from admission to discharge.

Duke Raleigh Hospital participates in the the North Carolina Stroke Collaborative as well as the American Heart Association and American Stroke Association “Get with the Guidelines” quality improvement campaign, which empowers teams to take care of stroke and heart patients according to the most up-to-date guidelines.

Neurological services include treatment of:

  • Cerebrovascular disease (stroke)
  • Intracranial endovascular neurointerventions using minimally invasive endovascular techniques to treat vascular disease of the brain.
  • Sleep disorders including hypersomnolence, narcolepsy, and sleep-disordered breathing
