What is an ultrasound?

An ultrasound is an imaging technique that uses high frequency sound waves to create images of soft tissues and internal organs in the body. Ultrasounds make it possible for radiologists to diagnose many diseases and medical conditions without the need for surgery or radiation.

American College of Radiology (ACR) Accreditation

The Duke Raleigh Hospital ultrasound department is accredited by the American College of Radiology in abdomen, obstetrics first trimester, and GYN ultrasounds. We are equipped with state-of-art ultrasound technology. Our courteous staff are highly trained and registered by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography.

Hours of Operation

The ultrasound department is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Refer a Patient

Referring a patient to Duke Raleigh Hospital imaging services is easy. We created a flexible scheduling process with your convenience in mind.

To refer a patient for an ultrasound, complete the imaging OPI referral form (PDF, 284 KB), sign it, and fax to 919-681-8004.

Upon receiving the fax, we will call the patient and schedule the examination. If you would prefer to schedule the examination, please call our scheduling department at 919-954-3382 or 919-954-3383.
