Duke Raleigh Hospital is a committed partner in improving the health of our community. We advocate for a healthier community through collaboration with others including the local medical community through programs like the CapitalCare Collaborative, a coordinated effort to reach the medically underserved, and Alliance Medical Ministry where Duke Raleigh offers medical support and a specially-developed diabetes education program.
Through our programs like the Healthy Focus series of educational seminars as well as through our speakers bureau and area educational programs, we value opportunities to provide health education and outreach.

Our History
Duke Raleigh Hospital has long been a part of the Raleigh community and was formerly Mary Elizabeth Hospital which opened in 1914. The hospital moved to its current location as Raleigh Community Hospital in 1978.
Duke Raleigh has been a part of the Duke University Health System since 1998 and brings world-renowned resources and access to the most advanced technology and leading–edge medicine available to patients in Wake County and the surrounding area.
Duke Raleigh Hospital provides award–winning care and has received Magnet designation by the American Nurses Credentialing Center and was the first hospital in the state to receive the Hallmarks of Healthy Workplaces Distinction from the North Carolina Nurses Association.
Our Focus
Duke Raleigh Hospital's key clinical areas of focus include oncology, cardiovascular, neurosciences and orthopaedic and spine:
- Oncology: Duke Raleigh's services include medical oncology, radiation oncology, gynecologic oncology and the newest addition of surgical oncology. Patients can access to multidisciplinary care in one convenient location and to the newest developments in research and treatments and a large number of clinical trials. Dr. Joseph Moore, a renowned medical oncologist, is medical director of Duke Raleigh Cancer Center.
- Neurosciences: Duke Raleigh's neurosciences program is rapidly growing with Duke Neurosurgery and Duke Neurology located on the hospital's campus, as well as access to the latest advancements in neurosurgical and neurologic care. Duke Raleigh has one of Wake County's most advanced operating rooms specially equipped for neurosurgery and a unit dedicated to the special needs of neurosurgical and neurologic patients.
- Cardiovascular: Duke Raleigh's cardiovascular and neurovascular interventional services continue to grow with the future addition of a Bi-Plane catheterization lab which will afford the capability to perform neurointerventions and will complete the hospital's full–service neurosciences program.
- Orthopaedic and Spine: Duke Raleigh Hospital's Orthopaedic and Spine Center's extraordinary medical team provides care for patients at all stages before, during and after their surgery. Duke Raleigh is currently the only hospital in the region to have received both Disease–Specific Care Certification for the Total Joint Program from The Joint Commission and to be designated a Blue Distinction Center for Hip and Knee by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina.
Duke Raleigh's outpatient services include a Diabetes Center, Wellness Center (including cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation), a Wound Healing Center, Outpatient Rehabilitation and an Outpatient Imaging Center.
