The Sound of Silence: Hearing Loss and Hearing AidsApril 22, 2010 Matthew Ellison, MD, FACS, and Benee Connelly, AuD Benee Connelly, AuD, is a licensed audiologist with over 17 years experience working in hospitals, school systems, and clinics throughout North Carolina. Connelly received her B.A. in Communication from North Carolina State University in 1991, and a master's degree from East Carolina University. In 2006, she graduated from the Arizona School of Health Sciences with a doctorate degree in Audiology. Connelly is board certified, and has held a Certificate of Clinical Competence issued by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association since 1994. Connelly joined Duke Otolaryngology of Raleigh in 2007, where she enjoys treating patients of all ages. Special areas of interest include adult balance disorders and hearing aids. Connelly is proud to be a Raleigh native. Matthew Ellison, MD, FACS, is a board-certified otolaryngologist-head and neck surgeon (ENT physician), practicing since 1999. He joined Duke Medicine in 2009. His primary clinic is at Duke Medical Plaza in Raleigh, where he sees patients of all ages. He has privileges at Duke Raleigh Hospital, Duke University Medical Center, Durham Veteran's Administration Medical Center, and Rex Hospital. He performs many of the surgeries to correct conductive hearing loss, and is constantly in contact with the cochlear implant team at Duke University. His research interests are in methods to treat allergies and sleep apnea. He and his family live in Raleigh. Watch the Video
