The Duke Raleigh Lung Cancer Survivorship Clinic is the first program of its kind. Led by lung cancer specialist Dr. Jennifer Garst, oncology clinical nurse specialist Susan Bruce, RN, and Kelly Young, D-NP, the clinic empowers patients and their families to make healthy lifestyle choices to positively impact their ongoing quality of life and help minimize the risks of developing other illnesses of secondary cancers.
This interactive patient support clinic follows a lung cancer survivorship care plan and offers individual assessments, both group and individual support and education during a single, specialized clinic visit. Dr. Garst and a multidisciplinary team of lung cancer specialists diagnose late- effect findings and help patients navigate through the long-term challenges following treatment for lung cancer. These areas can include exercise tolerance and shortness of breath, post-thoracotomy syndrome, peripheral neuropathy, healthy eating and nutrition, smoking cessation, sexuality, life coping skills, spirituality and relaxation techniques, bone health, and more.
The Duke Raleigh Lung Cancer Survivorship Clinic is held on the fourth Tuesday each month, from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
