Sometimes when cancer patients have tumors removed the surgeon also removes lymph nodes to prevent the spreading of the disease. At times, the removal of lymph nodes causes painful swelling and a collection of fluids in the extremities near the surgery site. This is painful and often debilitating. With the proper treatment, patients can control the swelling and pain. Our lymphedema program works with patients to teach them the proper technique in disease management.
