Patients suffering from chronic pain now have better access to the Raleigh Community Hospital Pain Clinic. The clinic has moved out of its former two-bed location in Same Day Surgery, into a new, larger location. The new clinic has three treatment rooms that can accommodate as many as 25 patients a day.
The clinic, with physician services provided by Carolina Pain Consultants, includes a larger treatment room for fluoroscopy, or X-rays, and a patient waiting and reception area.

“We will be able to more efficiently meet patients’ needs with more private rooms and a more accessible space,” said Sherry Pritchard R.N., who has been with the Pain Clinic at RCH for over five years. “The expansion of the Pain Clinic will also support the growth of our other hospital services.”

Patients suffering from chronic pain must be referred to the clinic. The physicians at the Pain Clinic stay in communication with the referring physician throughout every step of treatment. “We handle a variety of cases and try to provide education to enable them to more easily deal with their pain. We take a multidisciplinary approach to pain management,” said Pritchard. “With this new space, we will more readily be able to accommodate more of these types of patients with the proper patient education and support.”

Dr. Keith Kittelberger, a physician with Carolina Pain Consultants, is also enthusiastic about the expansion. “Our goal is to provide optimal patient care, and the expansion of the clinic, along with better, more efficient technology, will help us to meet this goal,” said Kittelberger. Carolina Pain Consultants has also expanded in number, with the recent addition of two physicians: Dr. Thomas Buchheit and Dr. Paul Reiker.
