Richard Gannotta Named Chief Operating Officer at Duke Health Raleigh Hospital

Raleigh, N.C. -- Richard Gannotta has been named the new chief operating officer of Duke Health Raleigh Hospital (DHRH). Gannotta comes to DHRH from WakeMed Raleigh Campus, where he was recently named senior vice president and administrator of the Raleigh campus. Prior to that he served as senior vice president of operations since 2003 and vice president of operations since 1999.

Gannotta’s selection was announced on Friday, April 7th by Doug Vinsel, chief executive officer of DHRH. Gannotta will assume his new role in mid-April.

“I have known Rick for more than 12 years and even helped recruit him to the Raleigh area,” said Vinsel. “I know him to be an individual of great leadership, mentorship and program development and am pleased to have the opportunity to begin working with him once again.”

In his current role, Gannotta is responsible for operations at WakeMed’s Raleigh Campus and has provided leadership for the development and expansion of a heart program, a nursing executive council and critical care intensivist program. Gannotta has also directed growth in key service areas including emergency services, surgical services and technology development.

“I am truly honored to become a part of the Duke University Health System and look forward to the opportunity to help guide DHRH’s program development and service growth. I am pleased with the future plans for DHRH and look forward to working with staff and physicians to continue the advancement of services,” said Gannotta.

Gannotta is assuming the role from interim chief operating officer John Robinette. Robinette has served in that capacity since December 2005.

A certified Nurse Practitioner in adult health, Gannotta received his bachelor of science degree from Florida International University in 1991 and his master of business administration from Campbell University in 1998. He is a Consulting Adjunct Faculty member at the Duke University School of Nursing and a diplomat of the American College of Healthcare Executives. Gannotta was also a 1996 J & J fellow at the Wharton School.

Gannotta additionally serves on a variety of community and professional boards including the Advisory Board for the Wharton School - Leonard Davis School for Health Economics and the NC Center for Nursing Workforce Development.
