Press Release 07/26/2007: Board Member Plants Seeds for Duke Raleigh Garden
(Raleigh, NC) -- Those visiting the Duke Raleigh Hospital campus will soon be able to go to a pristine and tranquil garden for respite. The unique Duke Raleigh Garden is made possible through a generous donation from the family of Duke Raleigh Advisory Board Member Carolyn Grant. Carolyn and her son Forrest made the contribution in honor of Forrest’s grandfathers, W. Carrell Willis and W. Forrest Grant.

Press Release 10/16/2006: DHRH Cardiac Rehab & Wellness Center 20 Year Anniversary
Raleigh, NC -- Bill Breedlove said it’s the place he made lasting friendships. Liz Holland said it gave her the ability to play with her grandchildren. Patient Mary Anne Barbour said it saved her life. Over the past twenty years, the Cardiac Rehabilitation and Wellness Center at Duke Health Raleigh Hospital has meant many things to many people. On October 17, 2006, the center’s current and former patients, staff and physicians will gather for a reception in honor of Wake County’s oldest hospital-based cardiac rehabilitation program and to celebrate 20 years of improving patient’s lives. Press Release 10/03/2006: Triangle Hospitals to Become Completely Tobacco-Free in July 2007
Triangle Area, N.C. (October 3, 2006) - North Carolina’s three major Triangle area health systems, including Duke University Health System, UNC Healthcare and WakeMed Health & Hospitals, announced their decision today to become 100 percent tobacco-free by July 4, 2007. Combined, these three health systems perform nearly 3,000,000 patient encounters per year, serving patients from all 100 counties in North Carolina. Together, the three systems employ nearly 40,000 health care workers. (read on)
Press Release 08/30/2006: DHRH and Alice Aycock Poe Center for Health Education Awarded $347,000 Duke Endowment Grant for Educational Partnership Project
RALEIGH, N.C.-Duke Health Raleigh Hospital and the Alice Aycock Poe Center for Health Education have been awarded a three-year grant from The Duke Endowment totaling $347,000. The funding will underwrite a partnership program called Wholesome Routines, a school-based, comprehensive nutrition and physical activity program with a curriculum developed by the Poe Center. Raleigh, NC -- Duke Raleigh Hospital has been named the first hospital recipient in the state of the Hallmarks of Healthy Workplace designation by the North Carolina Nurses Association Professional Practice Advocacy Coalition (NCNA). The nursing recognition is given to facilities that have developed healthy workplaces for nursing staff and advocate nursing involvement in all facets of the organization. (read on)
Press Release 04/07/2006: Richard Gannotta Named Chief Operating Officer at Duke Health Raleigh Hospital
Raleigh, N.C. – Richard Gannotta has been named the new chief operating officer of Duke Health Raleigh Hospital (DHRH). Gannotta comes to DHRH from WakeMed Raleigh Campus, where he was recently named senior vice president and administrator of the Raleigh campus. Prior to that he served as senior vice president of operations since 2003 and vice president of operations since 1999. (read on)
Press Release 01/30/2006: Doug Vinsel Appointed CEO at Duke Health Raleigh Hospital
Raleigh, N.C. – Doug Vinsel has been named the new chief executive officer of Duke Health Raleigh Hospital (DHRH). Vinsel comes to DHRH from WakeMed Health and Hospitals, where he has served as chief operating officer and executive vice president since 1984. Vinsel's selection was announced jointly Tuesday by Victor J. Dzau, M.D., chancellor for health affairs at Duke and president and CEO of the Duke University Health System, and Ralph Moore, chairman of the DHRH Advisory Board. (read on)

Press Release 03/01/2004: Students Getting to the Heart of Good Health
Rolesville students are getting pumped up about heart heath. The second-graders at Rolesville Elementary School will be learning about heart health and fitness as a part of RAH* for Rolesville! (Really Awesome Health) program. The health educators from the Alice Poe Center for Health Education will be introducing this vital organ to them. The 2nd grade program includes what the heart does, the size and location. The program stresses how to take care of it through eating heart healthy foods and fitness. Students will also learn about heart rate and get a chance to check their own heart rate using stethoscopes. (read on)

Jim Knight as one of the newest members of its Board of Directors. Knight brings his healthcare perspective, leadership and experience to the organization, which provides services such as medical health care, prescription medications, financial assistance, food assistance and other support services to promote self-sufficiency and a stable home environment for those in need. Press Release 08/29/2003: Latest Heartburn Diagnostic Technology Available in Raleigh
Raleigh Community Hospital is the first and only Wake County facility to offer regional patients a more comfortable and accurate diagnostic test for heartburn through the Bravo™ pH Monitoring System.

Physicians have traditionally used an uncomfortable and inhibiting diagnostic technique to diagnose patients suspected of having acid reflux or gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). The traditional technique involves a catheter that is attached to a monitoring device on the patient’s belt. The catheter wraps around the patient’s ears and travels through the nose and into the esophagus. This method often causes nasal discomfort as well as the embarrassment of going in public with a visible catheter in the nose. (read on)

First opening its doors in August 1988, the RCH Diabetes Treatment Center (DTC) is celebrating fifteen years at Raleigh Community Hospital. The largest and longest running diabetes education program in the Raleigh area, the DTC has educated more than 11,000 patients of all ages, both newly diagnosed and those who have had diabetes for years. Press Release 03/14/2003: Raleigh Community Hospital Offers Free Colorectal Forum
The second leading cause of cancer related deaths in the United States is colorectal cancer. Although fatal if not treated, it is also one of the most curable forms of cancer. *

To increase awareness of colorectal cancer, Raleigh Community Hospital (RCH) is hosting a community seminar and open forum on Monday, April 14 at 6:30 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. in the RCH cafeteria. (read on)
Press Release 02/21/2003: Sheriff Tuffy Tooth Lays Down the Law of Dental Health
February is National Children’s Dental Health Month and the first, second and third graders at Rolesville Elementary School will be “brushing-up” on their dental health.

During the month of February, representatives from the Alice Aycock Poe Center for Health Education are visiting Rolesville Elementary School’s kindergarten classes with sidekick, Sheriff Tuffy Tooth. “Tuffy” is a singing, talking, light-up educational tool that makes dental care fun for children and comes with healthy snacks and a giant toothbrush to show how to properly brush teeth.
