Media Interviews/Stories

Any reporter or photographer interested in covering a story at Duke Raleigh Hospital must contact a representative in the Public Relations and Community Outreach Department. We are happy to try to accommodate any requests you my have by arranging interviews and photo opportunities with medical experts, staff or patients. Duke Raleigh policy requires that members of the media are escorted at all times while on Duke Raleigh property. Please call Public Relations & Community Outreach in advance to arrange this.

Patient Information

The office of Public Relations and Community Outreach can assist you during our regular office hours in receiving a patient condition. To receive a report after hours, please call our Patient Information Desk at 919-954-3126. Those individuals making an inquiry must provide the hospital with a patient’s full name before a condition report can be released, in accordance with the American Hospital Association Guidelines and HIPAA guidelines.

Condition Definitions

  • Good: Vital signs are stable and within the normal limits. Patient is conscious and comfortable. Indicators are excellent.
  • Fair: Vital signs are stable and within normal limits. Patient is conscious, but may be uncomfortable. Indicators are favorable.
  • Serious: Vital signs may be unstable and not within normal limits. Patient is acutely ill. Indicators are questionable.
  • Critical: Vital signs are unstable and not within normal limits. Patient may be unconscious. Indicators are unfavorable.
  • Undetermined: Patient awaiting physician assessment.
