The P.G. Fox Society

The P.G. Fox Society began in 2004 as a philanthropic program to support special projects that benefit the patients of Duke Raleigh Hospital. The society was named in honor of Dr. Powell G. Fox, Jr. for his many contributions to Duke Raleigh Hospital and to acknowledge his distinguished career.

A commemorative wall is placed in the Duke Raleigh main hallway in appreciation of the founding donors of the society.

The first project completed from contributions to the P.G. Fox Society was a private consult room for physicians, patients, and their families, which also included the online P.G. Fox Society Learning Resource Center.

The P.G. Fox Society’s efforts have additionally enabled the creation of an annual educational scholarship to recognize one exceptional nurse at Duke Raleigh Hospital, as well as an endowment to be used “where the needs are greatest” for patients and their families.

The P.G. Fox Society’s contributions additionally supported the completion of the Duke Raleigh Gardens, located adjacent to the Duke Raleigh Cancer Center. A plaque was placed in the gardens to commemorate the society’s generous contributions.

Beginning in 2011, the P.G. Fox Society began recognizing individuals who demonstrate a sustained dedication to civic participation and an ability to inspire others with the Compassionate Care Award.

Future projects for the society include supporting the restoration of Birdwood, a treasured home and its five acres of gardens and woods adjacent to Duke Raleigh’s campus. When completed, Birdwood will serve as a hospital hospitality house, offering comfort, care, and lodging.
